Did you know that I love the Fall and Winter?

I love fall because watching the sun rising behind the fog on my morning commute is so relaxing and I love winter because being warm inside and watching the snow on the other side of the windows is so peaceful.

But what I love the most is my morning routine for the weekend! And I am going to share it with you today so you can add some hygge in your life.

What is Hygge?

Hygge is the Danish art of cozily living in the moment. It’s about comfort, happiness, and experience.

It’s also one of my favorite words to say (along with banana). Remember that I am French and living in the USA, so I have a very strong accent. And it takes me a lot of time before saying a word correctly. Which makes my husband laugh all the time.

Funny story: about seven years ago, my husband let me say “I’m boring” instead of “I’m bored” for a couple of months when we first started dating, before correcting me on the matter …

Back to Hygge. I used to say “Hee-gee”, but when I read The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking, I learned that Hygge is actually pronounced “Hoo-Ga”.

Since then, I just say this word randomly because I like the way it sounds 😀

Try to say it out loud and you’ll see!

My Hygge Morning Routine for the weekend

1. Cuddle with my cat and my husband

Most of the days I wake up in the arms of my husbands with our legs tangled. I know it’s hard to believe after five years of marriage. But trust me, it wasn’t always like that. It’s just that we have worked on our relationship in the past couple of years and have become closer. Maybe I should write an article about this 😉

As soon as my cat knows that I am awake, he runs to the bedroom to get me out of bed and feed him.

The way he does it is to sit next to me, purrs, smells my face and pets his face with my hand. Which is so cute that I – obviously – cave-in and pet him.

2. Grab a book and go downstairs

When I am finally ready to get out of bed, I grab a book and a couple of magazines and go downstairs.

Right now I love reading:

3. Turn on the fireplace

The first thing I do when I get in my living room is to turn on my fireplace. We have a gas fireplace so it literally takes a second to do it!

I love having the fireplace on, makes me feel so cozy! I like feeling the warm fire that emanates from it, seeing the flame flickering and my cat sleeping next to it.

4. Put music on

I have a problem: during the weekend, if I turn on the TV in the morning, let’s just say that my day is over. I can’t disconnect and I end up binge-watching shows all day long.

So, instead, I try to put music on. I connect my phone or my tablet to the soundbar of the TV with Bluetooth and put music on.

I usually listen to Spotify when I am at work and listen to Amazon Prime when I’m home. It might feel stupid but it helps me to separate my work life and personal life. Plus I find it easier to relax.

I like to look at the recommendations in Amazon Prime. I usually get very peaceful playlists and stations:

  • Fall Favorites
  • Warm Acoustic Indie
  • The Head and The Heart and More
  • The Lumineers and More
  • Andrew Bird and More
  • Indie by the Bonfire
  • Chill Indie For Yoga
  • Cool Down: Indie
  • Fall Back Wake Up
  • The Great Outdoors
  • Relaxing in the Bath
  • Bon Iver and More
  • Relaxing Acoustic Indie

I highly recommend you to check it out!

You can try Amazon Prime for free for 30 days by clicking here.

4. Make hot chocolate

The next thing I do is prepare hot chocolate.

If you read my article about How to Live a Healthy Life and Love your Body you know that I am trying to eat healthier.

It’s not easy every day, I have ups and downs. So I decided to focus on a healthy lifestyle instead of a temporary diet.

This is why I am trying to get a healthy hot chocolate!

Right now I get:

I like to warm up the milk in a pot and then add it in a cup that already has the chocolate powder!

Here’s how it looks like:

5. Light a candle

When we hosted our housewarming party a few years ago we got a lot of candles. And that day started our obsessions with candles

I just counted, we have 8 candles just in the living room and only one on 🙂

All of them have different smells so we light them one at a time according to our mood.

My two favorites at the moment are:

  • Vanilla Macaroon from Natures Wick
  • Polynesian Pineapple from Cost Plus

6. Put my blanket on

A couple of years ago my amazing husband got me this comfortable sherpa throw blanket.

It’s so soft that I am always fighting over it with my cat. He loves to sleep on it, and I love to sleep under it 😀

During the day we keep it in a box next to the sofa and every evening I have it out to hang out on the sofa. I actually have it on right now!

7. Enjoy the moment

Only then am I truly ready to relax and enjoy the moment.

I can write an article for my blog like I am doing now, or read. I usually do one thing for a little bit of time and then move to something else.

But I’ll tell you that I am ready to spend hours and have a good time!
